What We Do

We’re specialists in community organisational engagement and facilitation. We work across the social, community and government sectors, helping organisations engage collaboratively with each other in order to unlock opportunities for co-creating sustainable solutions that work.

Our work serves a high need and vulnerable population. 85% of the people in Otara live in areas classified as being in the highest range of socioeconomic deprivation (poverty) in New Zealand. This is based on a number of factors, including:

The collaborative design process we apply is based on the ‘power of co’ a five step collaborative governance framework designed by Twyfords. Within the framework we also apply Mark Friedman’s results based accountability framework.

After meeting with our community in 2014,  they informed us they see three distinct roles for Otara Health which we have now taken on board as part of our strategic direction.

They are:

Service Delivery – to co-design meaningful, relevant and effective community development programmes whereby Otara Health can make a real difference

Facilitator – to broker, coordinate and facilitate community and multi-sector collaboration for addressing priority social issues

Advocate – to advocate for the community

Operationally, we’ve developed three Pou that house all the services we provide

Whānau Mātauranga – Parenting and Child Education Services

Papakāinga – Community Services

Hapori Whānui – Community Systems
