Parenting is one of the most important jobs we will ever undertake. Yet as life will have it anyone can become a parent with no training required. There is no parenting manual as such that we can rely on and so with no other references to draw on good or bad, it is likely we will parent the way we were parented. We aim to help parents along their journey providing them with information and advice so that they can make most of their parenting experience.
We focus on prevention as opposed to providing reactive services. By the age of 10 or 12 years, when problems of behaviour, delinquency and mental health first start presenting themselves the work needed to turn the child’s life around is intense and challenging for parents, and practitioners operating in this field.
Evidence shows that the first three years of life are a crucial time of development. With our work we would hope to ensure that each of the estimated 850 babies that are born into Otara have the best start to life.
