Community Services
Children and families live in communities. A healthy community has many advantages including:
- promoting physical activity
- promoting healthy food choices
- increasing social connection, a sense of community and safety
- encouraging recycling and looking after the environment
Over the years Otara Health has played a key role in building a healthy community. This has included building community leadership and advocacy skills to empower people to understand and lead change within their community.
The main community service we are currently involved with is the Neighbourhood Support Groups. At the same time we continue to play a vital role in supporting leadership and creating momentum that supports sustainable change and addresses, along with other key issues faced by the community, the key risk factors to chronic disease: tobacco, alcohol, diet and physical activity.
